What's maximum CPU cores and RAM supported?

HI,
I'm trying to use InfiniDB community Edition in production environment soon. And selecting a physical server to maximumly speed up the performance.

What's the maximum number of CPU cores supported? How about 24 cores? is it necessary?
What is the maximum number of RAM supported? the larger the better?

Since we'll use SAN storage, do you have some benchmark on how to balance between the CPU cores and SAN storage speed? I saw from your document said 8 cores can fully tax a 4GB fiber channel SAN?

thanks a lot!

Leo

Hi Leo,

The Calpont InfiniDB Community Software Source License Agreement restricts the use of InfiniDB in a production deployment, allowing you to only utilize the processing capacity of one physical CPU. The Calpont Enterprise Edition does not have this restriction on the number of cores or the amount of RAM supported.

Additional information on the Enterprise Edition is available at http://www.calpont.com.

Thank you,

Robert

thanks

Hi Leo,

You could configure your system to have a virtual machine with only one CPU.
Another option would be to use the following command to turn off CPUs. This example is for cpu1.

Stop InfiniDB, then:

echo 0 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/online

Do the same for cpu2, etc. Then start InfiniDB. These changes will not persist across a reboot. To make them persist across a reboot, edit /boot/grub/grub.conf and add to the kernel line:

maxcpus=1

Thank you,

Robert

Thanks for the suggestions.
But i want to keep both cpus active and be sure that Infinidb only uses one.

Is there a way to force Infinidb to use only one (e.g in a 2 quad core cpus setup, to use only 4 cores)?

Ciao,
F

Hi,

If you don't want to shut off cores, then use the VM option.

Thanks,

Robert

To limit CPUs in OpenVZ or LXC?

Hi,

We don't have knowledge of OpenVZ or LXC. If they allow you to set up a VM then that would be an option.

Thanks,
